Video: Rare megamouth shark filmed off Japan
Japanese fisherman in the Chiba prefecture caught a rare megamouth shark in their net this past week. The fishermen notified local divers to assist them in freeing the extremely rare fish from their nets and were successful as the megamouth shark swam off “vigorously”. Video of the released shark was captured by Japanese diver Hiroyuki Arakawa.
Hugyfot announces Vision housing for HERO5
Hugyfot has announced their Vision housing for the GoPro HERO5. Constructed of aluminum, it is rated to 200m (650 feet) and has an integrated 7” HDMI monitor along with a 2 Li-ion battery packs that allow for 5 hours of shooting. It is supplied with Hugyfot’s wing tray and handles with 1” ball mounts and a red flip filter.

Murex Dive Resort manager, Pim van Schendel captured this amazing behavior footage at Rojos, Lembeh Straits last Tuesday. It shows the emperor shrimp (Zenopontonia rex) using a leopard sea cucumber (Bohadschia argus) not only for transportation, but also as a means of hiding its approach to prey species
Update on laptop ban for travelers to US
Time Magazine reports that following a meeting between US and EU officials in Brussels, the ban on the carriage of laptops in the cabins of aircraft on flights from Europe to the U.S.A. will not be implemented at this time. Instead, officials have agreed to improve cooperation and communication about possible security threats. It should be noted that the original ban on electrical items is still in effect for travelers from several mainly middle eastern destinations.
Call for Beta Testers: Videux app
Wetpixel’s friend Chris Parsons has reached out to the Wetpixel community to ask video shooters to test the beta version of his new app, Videux. It is a video organizer, player and workflow assistant and is currently being tested for Mac only. If you have a large video library and would like to give the Videux team feedback on the beta of their app, please reach out to them.
Late Availability: Wetpixel Whale Sharks July/August 2017
We have a few last minute spots available to snorkel and photograph the amazing whale shark aggregation off Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Unlike many other trips to the area, this is not a “tourist” experience, in that we leave early and stay out late in order to maximize the photographic opportunities with these wonderful animals. We also use boats run by professional game fishermen; people who are out at sea looking for fish year round.
A story of patience and perseverence behind this underwater shot of a beaver
It took photographer Louis-Marie Preau four-years to get this shot of an Eurasian Beaver underwater. This shot represents the dedication of both photographer and conservationists alike. For Preau, his dedication included nightly swims in a river in the Loire region of western France that would last two to three hours. But, he finally got his shot.
UK-Germany announces wireless flash triggering system
UK-Germany has announced their UK-WFT wireless flash triggering system. Deigned for pool shoots, transmitter and receiver units are connected by Nikonos cables to the camera housing/camera and to any number of flash units. The wireless units float on the surface and communicate wirelessly.
