A new online magazine that explores the ocean world has been released. Featured-Creatures is an online magazine for kids and adults that provides entertainment, facts and ocean-related content for “Kids” of all ages. Marty Snyderman, along with Rick Voight of Vivid-Pix, Howard and Michele Hall, and Jenny Boshears, bring ocean fun to subscribers every month.
Our World Underwater 2017: Winners announced
The results of the first stage of the UnderwaterCompetition.com series have been announced At a function during Our World Underwater, the winners of the show’s contest were announced Hearty congratulations to Yatwai So for his winning image of a juvenile sweetlips, and to all those in the placings.
Sony announces ultra fast SD cards
Sony has announced their SF-G series SD cards that feature a claimed write speed of 299MB/ and a read speeds of 300MB/s. The company has achieved these speeds by improving the physical architecture and by using a new algorithm that “prevents loss of speed in data writing even after repeating burst shooting, and contributes to the camera’s speed of burst shooting.”
Ikelite releases housing for Panasonic Lumix GH5
Ikelite has released their 200DL housing for the Panasonic Lumix GH5. The housing is depth rated to 200 feet and has an MSRP of $1695. The Lumix GH5 has a 20.3 MP sensor and an ISO of up to 25,5600. Video is 4K 60p/50p and 4K 30p with internal 4:2:2 10-bit recording. The camera itself will be available at the end of next month and the housing should be available soon, too.
Last few days to enter DEEP Indonesia 2017
All entries for the second flagship contest in the UnderwaterCompetition.com series, DEEP Indonesia, must be submitted by 25 February. The contest focuses on being interpretive and the rules allow for post processing. If you haven’t entered yet, you now only have a few days to do so.
CMAS World Championship to be held in Mexico
CMAS has announced that the next World Championship of Underwater Photography will be held from 22 to 27 November 2017 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Full details and contests rules for the shoot out style contest are available on the CMAS website.
Several swimming pigs found dead in Bahamas
Several of the famous Bahamas swimming pigs were found dead over the weekend. It is unclear how the pigs died, whether intentional or accidental, but an investigation is underway according to the Bahamas Humane Society (BHS) president Kim Aranha. Approximately 7 pigs are alive and unaffected. The swimming pigs of Exuma are famous in the underwater photography community for use as subjects in photographs.
Sigma announces 4 lenses including 14mm wide angle
Sigma has announced 4 new lenses prior to the CP+ Show. For underwater use, the 14mm f1.8 DG HSM Art offer a 114.2° FOV (in air) and a minimum focusing distance of 27 cm (10.6in.) on full frame cameras. It will be available with Nikon, Canon and Sigma mounts.
