In an article entitled “The Best Shark Biologists and Conservationists to Follow During Shark Week”, Scientific American has highlighted a series of shark scientists whose tweets provide the perfect science based alternative to the excesses of Discovery’s sensational Shark Week.
Ikelite offers optical slave converter
Ikelite has released an optical converter for use with their DS1, DS160 and DS161 strobes. Suitable for off camera use, it will give manual exposure control of the strobe and will ignore pre-flashes. Uniquely, it can also accept a fiber optic cable, allowing it to be used to trigger Ikelite strobes via an optical signal.
BBC offers underwater camera operator bursary
The BBC is advertising a bursary to develop an individual as an underwater camera operator. The successful applicant will need a strong diving background and ideally will already be shooting underwater in 4K. He or she will be a part of the OCEAN production team, which is the next series in the Blue Planet and Planet Earth stable of programs. Filming is due to commence in January 2015.
Ikelite announces housing for Nikon D810
Ikelite has announced their housing for the Nikon D810 SLR. It features TTL flash exposure control, polycarbonate construction and is compatible with Ikelite’s port system. It ships with zoom/focus gears and an aluminum tray as standard.
James Cameron’s Deep Sea 3D in theaters today
James Cameron’s latest endeavor, Deep Sea 3D, is in US theaters beginning today. The 3D film documents Cameron’s journey to construct a submarine capable of transporting him to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, and subsequent dive to get there. The Mariana Trench is unique in that it is almost seven miles down, the deepest part of the ocean.
Blackmagic Design releases Resolve 11
Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 11. This version adds new nonlinear editing tools, updated and photographer friendly color correction tools, on set media management and enhanced integration into Final Cut Pro X’s workflow.
Nauticam announces the NA-D810
Nauticam has announced their housing for the Nikon D810 SLR. The NA-D810 features access to the camera’s Function (Fn) and Preview (Pv) buttons, which can be programmed for other functions, as well as a thumb lever giving access to the camera’s Info button.
Inon releases LED flashlight LF1400-S
Inon announces the second version of LF series LED flashlight, the LF1400-S. The flashlight has a maximum output of 1,400 lumen with a 30 degree angle. The LF1400-S is advertised as a dive light, however its native 5,000K quality beam also supports macro imaging in natural color.
