Linda Ianniello has compiled and shared a comprehensive list of resources to aid in the identification of blackwater creatures. By there very nature, these largely planktonic creatures are very challenging to catalog, especially perhaps since the images of them are normally captured hovering in the dark over very deep water! Included in the list is Linda and Susan Mears’ excellent BLACKWATER Creatures, A Guide To Southeast Florida Blackwater Diving.
Z-Cam announces E2-M4 camera
Z-Cam has announced the E2-M4 camera. It is essentially a version of the E2 4K camera without multi-cam sync capability, but with an interchangeable mount. It will ship with the MFT lens mount and can be optionally fitted with an EF, PL, or M lens mount. Z CAM’s EF and PL mounts support the electronic ND filter insert.
Video: ROV Survey of Ningaloo Canyons by Schmidt Ocean Institute
The Schmidt Ocean Institute has shared an amazing 4K showreel of footage captured during their ROV survey of the Ningaloo Canyons, Western Australia. The team carried out over 20 dives and some 180 hours of exploration, they recorded 30 new species, as well as “the longest animal ever recorded.”
Ikelite ships anti-reflection ring for Nikon 17-35mm
Ikelite has released a simple self-adhesive anti-reflection ring that can be attached to the front of the Nikon NIKKOR AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lens. This prevents the lens’ lettering from reflecting on the inside of the dome and hence appearing in images.
Capture releases updates to editing software
Capture One has released an update to its photo editing software. A significant change is the addition of a Nikon specific version (the company already provides bespoke versions for Sony and Fujifilm). The new version has improved clone and heal tools, a before and after tool, and a streamlined import from Lightroom catalog workflow.
Hugyfot announces Vision Xs housing for GoPro HERO 8
Hugyfot’s Vision Xs housing for the GoPro HERO 8 has an integrated HD IPS monitor with peaking and focus assist, along with histogram and zebras. Rated to 150m, it contains external batteries for the camera and monitor. It ships with a red filter kit and HugyCheck vacuum leak detection system.
Hugyfot announces new macro ports
Hugyfot has announced a new family of aluminum macro ports. They all feature a conical shape to enable lights and strobes to be positioned close to the port. They have machined hinges that allow for the attachment of flip holders and focus lights. The ports also offer an option for adding M67 threaded lenses directly to their front.
