Samsung 2019 theme features underwater footage shot by Scubazoo
Samsung’s 2019 theme “Over the Horizon” features underwater video of free diver Ai Futaki and the plentiful underwater life of Sipadan, Malaysia shot by Scubazoo’s Simon Enderby. The theme is arranged by Steven Price and was recorded at London’s iconic Abby Road Studios.
Call for entries: UM 2019 Underwater Photo Contest
The University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science is now accepting entries for its 2019 underwater photography contest. It is only open to individuals that earn less than 20% of their income from photography and the deadline is April 5, 2019.
Issue 13 of Heinz magazine available
Issue 13 of Heinz magazine is now available to view or download. In this issue, Franco Banfi illustrates Brazil’s Pantanal, Francesco Rastrelli the Bay of Naples, Christian Skauge on Norway’s nudibranchs and Daniela Dirscherl, night diving in the Maldives. The featured portfolio is by Yen-Yi Lee, and imagery featured is by Grant Thomas, Beth Watson, François Baelen, Arthur Kingdon and Jessica Farrer.
Ikelite announces housing for Panasonic TS7
Ikelite has announced their housing for the Panasonic TS7 and FT7 compact cameras. Made of the company’s signature ABS-PC blend, it has two fiber optic bulkheads and a port for the addition of a vacuum leak prevention system
Aquatica announces 5HD monitor
Aquatica has announced their 5HD monitor. It features an HD monitor with peaking and false color to assist focusing and exposure, housed in an aluminum housing with a sun shade and Aquatica’s rotary closure. Battery life is 4 hours, and the monitor will accept 4K input over HDMI.
Isotta announces housing for Nikon Z series
Isotta has announced their new housing for the Nikon Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras. Featuring many of Isotta’s standard features, the housing will ship with a TTL converter a standard that can fire strobes optically or electrically (with optional bulkheads). It has a port diameter of 120mm and has sufficient internal space to allow the use of the ZTF adaptor.
Review: Nauticam MWL-1 Conversion Lens by Jack Connick
Jack Connick presents his thoughts on the new Nauticam MWL-1 conversion lens after using it on a trip to Indonesia’s Forgotten Islands. The lens is a wet lens that is designed to convert mid focal length macro lenses into a 150° fisheye lens, primarily on full frame cameras. Hence the MWL-1 offers the intriguing possibility of shooting both macro and wide angle images on the same dive.
Results: Underwater Photographer of the Year 2019
The results of the 2019 Underwater Photographer of the Year competition were announced live on stage today at the Go Diving Show in Coventry, UK. All 48 of the finalists’ images were also on show at the event. Many congratulations to all the winners. The 2019 Yearbook featuring all the images in the placings is available to download as a pdf.
