Nikon announces Z series mirrorless cameras
Nikon has announced two new full frame mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7. Both feature the new Z mount lens system. The Z 7 has 45.7 effective megapixels and a native ISO range of 64-25600. The Z 6 has a 24.5 effective megapixels, and of ISO 100-51200. Full 4K video is supported with no pixel binning.
Large whale die off along Alaska coast concern scientists
Scientists are concerned about a high number of whale deaths along the northwest coast of North America in recent months. At least 30 dead whales have been recorded off the Gulf of Alaska since May, which is more than triple the normal rate, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association. At the current time, scientists are not certain what is to blame for the die off. The theory presently is that the large algae bloom is to blame, although only one tissue sample supports this.
Panasonic announces LX100 II
The long awaited new version of the Panasonic LX100 compact camera has been announced. The LX100 II features a 21.77MP, giving a resolution of 17MP when used in its default micro 4/3 4:3 aspect ratio. It also has a 3” touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity.
Meyer Optik Görlitz files for bankruptcy
The revival of special lens manufacturer Meyer Optik Görlitz, has come to an end. A recent series of Kickstarter campaigns had resurrected the classic Trioplan lenses, which have been bubble bokeh effect lenses for underwater photographers.
Rokinon announces 14mm AF lens for Nikon
Rokinon will be shipping their Nikon F-mount version of the ultra-wide AF 14mm f/2.8 lens in September. Already available for Canon EF mount, the lens has 15 glass elements in 10 groups and a minimum focus distance of 7.8 in (20 cm). The full frame lens is optimized for high resolution cameras.
Delkin Devices announces XQD cards
Delkin Devices has announced that the will be shipping their premium XQD cards from mid to late October. They will be available in 64GB, 120GB and 240GB capacities and the cards have a possible write write speed of 400MB/s, allowing them capable of recording 4K and HD video at 180fps.
PetaPixel features underwater images of plankton
PetaPixel has featured the images of Japanese underwater photographer Ryo Minemizu. Minemizu’s images focus on microscopic plankton that rise to the surface during blackwater dives. The images are part of a solo exhibition entitled Jewels in the Night Sea that will be touring Japan later this year. The 40 images are featured and supported by Canon galleries in Japan.
Ikelite announces Nikon TTL converters
Ikelite has announced their DS Link TTL converters for Nikon cameras with DS series strobes. Available with either Nikonos or Ikelite connection it features an electronic connection and the user can switch between manual and TTL modes. It also supports camera EV compensation and rear curtain sync.
