Lightroom Coffee Break: Slider Sensitivity
Adobe’s Benjamin Warde offers a short video tutorial of a technique that allows for fine control of Lightroom’s sliders in his Lightroom Coffee Break. Clicking and dragging in the text field on the slider will give much finer control. He highlights using this with the temperature slider, particularly relevant for color correcting underwater imagery.
Ikelite announces housing for Canon EOS Rebel T7i/800D
kelite has announced their housing for the Canon EOS Rebel T7i/800D. It is constructed of their signature ABS-PC material and features the Dry Lock port system. The housings ships with a vacuum port as standard and TTL strove triggering with Ikelite strobes is available as an option.
Scientists discover scalloped hammerhead nursery in Galapagos
Scientists have recently discovered a scalloped hammerhead shark nursery in the Galapagos Islands. The nursery is located off Santa Cruz Island and was only discovered in November of 2017. The archipelago is one of the most densely populated shark locations in the world. Female sharks give birth to litters of up to 30 pups in the mangrove shallows of the island, which is densely populated with crabs and other small crustaceans.
Magix announces subscription version of Vegas
Magix Software, the new owners of Vegas creative software, has released a subscription based version of their video and sound production tools. Vegas Pro 365 gives users full access to VEGAS Pro 15 and SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 12, along with online training courses to learn VEGAS Pro, for a monthly fee of $16.67 per month
Adobe updates Photoshop CC
Adobe has released a significant update to Photoshop CC. The latest version features the “Select Subject” funtionality that was trailed earlier in a Photoshop “Sneak Peak.” By using Adobe’s Sensei AI technology, this automatically selects the prominent subjects in an image.
DJI releases Mavic Air
Today, DJI released the Mavic Air. The new Mavic series drone is very portable, compact, and offers 4k video in a light-weight drone. The camera offers 32 MP sphere panoramas. A 3-axis gimbal and Smart Capture are also features. The Mavic Air retails for $799.
Show Report: BOOT 2018
The annual BOOT Show, held in Dusseldorf, Germany is the largest consumer watersports show in the world. It consists of 15 giant halls, which house exhibitors from almost every water based activity. Yachts, motorboats and cabin cruisers are all displayed, along with all the accessories that go with them. Among these is an area dedicated to underwater imaging. Wetpixel reports from the show
Vancouver aquarium to cease marine mammal captivity program
The Vancouver aquarium will no longer keep whales or dolphins in captivity. The decision came as a result of the Vancouver Park Board voted last year to prevent the aquarium from acquiring any new marine mammals for exhibits. The aquarium has stated that the intense public debate is hindering is conservation work.
