Microbeads ban goes into effect in UK this week

A ban on using microbeads in products went into effect on tuesday of this week in the UK. Manufacturers are banned from using the plastic microbeads in products such as toothpaste, and facial soap. A ban on sales of such products will go into effect in July. Thousands of tons of the small plastic beads make their way into the oceans every year as they are virtually impossible to filter from water treatment plants before being discharged into waterways.

Green sea turtles in Pacific rookery are turning 99% female

At Ingram Island off Northern Australia, the Pacific Island’s largest green sea turtle rookery, scientists have found that female sea turtles outnumber males by 116 to 1. Scientists expected to see a higher percentage of female sea turtles to males as warmer sand during egg incubation leads to female gene expression and climate change has lead to warmer temperatures in this part of the world. However, they were taken aback by the degree to which females outnumbered males.

Panasonic announces the Lumix GH5S

At the CES Show in Las Vegas, Panasonic has announced the Lumix GH5S mirrorless camera. It offers internal recording of 4:2:0 Cinema 4K at 60fps along with 4:2:2 Cinema 4K at 30fps. It also offers Variable Frame Rate recording. It features a 10.2MP multi aspect sensor with a native ISO up to 51,200 and 14 bit RAW still images.
