Among the events celebrated in the past few weeks, was the announcement of the results of the 2021 Underwater Photographer of the Year contest. In the spirit of providing constructive feedback to the Wetpixel community, Alex and Adam review all the category winners and discuss the changes to the judging panel.
Go Ask Erin: Free Lightroom Masking Tutorial
Erin Quigley and the talented team at Go Ask Erin are returning with another free live tutorial looking deeper into Lightroom’s Masking Panel. There will be two identical sessions on 25 February, the first at 11.00 am PST and the second at 5.00 pm PST. Registration is required.
Wetpixel Live: Adobe Super Resolution
Following up on a previous episode, Alex and Adam further discuss Adobe’s Super Resolution option. Incorporated into Lightroom and Photoshop, this offers some exciting new options, particularly when used with older cameras and/or with low-resolution cameras that can offer attractive low-light performance options.
Nauticam Ships Housing for Nikon Z9
Nauticam is shipping their NA-Z9 housing for the Nikon Z9 camera. It offers compatibility with both Z and F mount lenses via the N120 port system and has an M24 port for HDMI 2.0 signal out. Specific controls give access to Fn1, Fn2, and Fn3 controls.
Wetpixel Live: 2021 Wetpixel/DPG Masters Results
After a sabbatical, Alex and Adam gather to discuss the results of the 2021 DPG/Wetpixel Masters of Underwater Imaging contest. Focusing primarily on the category winners, they highlight what made the images the winners, how the winners crafted their images, and give constructive feedback on some creative ideas about how they could potentially be improved.
Indonesia Relaxes Quarantine Requirements
Indonesia has announced plans to gradually start lifting restrictions on travel. According to newspaper reports, the current plans aim for quarantine periods for vaccinated travelers to be reduced from 5 to 3 days on or by 1 March, with the possibility that all quarantine requirements will be lifted by 1 April.
OM Digital Announces OM-1 Camera
OM Digital has announced (PDF) their OM-1 Micro Four Thirds camera. It has a 20MP stacked BSI sensor with a new TruePic X processor, offering a native ISO range of 80 to 25,600. It has “quad-pixel” AF with 1033 selectable points and 5 axis in-body stabilization. The EVF now has 5.76 million dot resolution. Video recording is 10 Bit 4K 60p or HD at 240p.
Sigma Announces 20mm Lens for Mirrorless Cameras
Sigma has announced their 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary ultra wide angle lens for mirrorless cameras. It offers a 94.5° field of view (in the air) and has a minimum focus distance of 22cm (8.7in.). Mount options are Leica L and Sony E mounts.
