Updated Vivid Pix Land & Sea apps available on iTunes
Vivid-Pix’s LAND & SEA picture fix app is now available for PC, Mac, iOS and for Android shortly. The software offers a quick and easy automatic correction of common issue with photographs on land and in shallow water. The LAND & SEA+ app adds “scuba depth improvement” for automatic correction of images taken while scuba diving.
Sony announces NX5R HD camcorder
Sony has announced the HXR-NX5R compact HD professional camcorder. It offers XAVC-S at 50Mbps or AVCHD/DV recording. It has three HD 1/2.8 Exmor sensors and a 20X zoom G lens and offers 1080p60 output via a 3G-SDI, along with HDMI and composite outputs. Sony has also released the RM-30BP remote controller, which can control most camera functions.
Canon announces the EOS 5D Mark IV and updated 16-35mm lens
Canon has finally announced the specifications of the much rumored EOS 5D Mark IV SLR camera. It has a new 30.4MP full frame sensor with a native ISO of 100 to 32,000, full 4K video at 24p or 30p, Dual Pixel AF in video and Live View modes and 61 AF points with 41 cross-points. Fast processing by the DIGIC 6+ processor allows up to 6fps. Canon has also announced an updated version of their popular 16-35mm lens. The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Ultra-Wide Zoom lens has improved durability and coatings.
Aquatica announces housing for Sony a6300
Aquatica has announced their housing for the Sony a6300 mirrorless camera. It is supplied with a tray, Aquatica’s standard grips, and a hand strap. The controls are designed to be accessible using either grips or hand strap. There is an optional tray with integrated battery pack available, and ports are available to support “the best lenses for the best optical results.”
Government proposes ban on swimming with wild Hawaiian spinner dolphins
The federal government is looking into a proposed ban of swimming with wild spinner dolphins in Hawaiian waters out to two miles from shore. The National Marine Fisheries Service believes that the health of the predictable spinner dolphins, who are nocturnal, is being jeopardized by so many tourists seeking them out by boat during the day. Underwater portrait series in 4°C water
Peta Pixel has published Daan Verhoeven’s underwater portrait series of people plunging into 4°C water. The tank of water was at the free diving world championships in Turku, Finland. He was able to set up in the tank and captured the moment of shock on the competitors faces as they submerged into the icy cold water.
Cal for entries: 2016 SoCal Shootout
Underwater imaging retailer Bluewater Photo has announced their 2016 SoCal Shootout. It is being held from 9 to 11 September and is open for any image shot during the period from anywhere south of Pt. Conception to north of the Mexican border. The entry fee is $40 for up to 8 still images or 3 video entries. Prizes are valued at $22,000 and registration is available now online.
