World’s deepest sinkhole discovered in South China Sea
After a year of exploration, researchers have concluded that the Sansha Yongle Blue Hole is the deepest in the world at 987 feet deep. The “Eye” of the South China Sea is a full 300 feet deeper than Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas, the underwater sinkhole that was previously thought to be the deepest in the world.
Fantasea unveils housing for Canon G7 X Mark II
Fantasea has announced their polycarbonate housing for the Canon G7 X Mark II compact camera. The FG7X II housing offers access to all essential camera controls and has a 67mm threaded port ring to allow for the attachment of accessory lenses. It is supplied with a leak detector and alarm, along with a hand strap and port cover.
Recsea announces housing for Canon G7 X Mark II
Recsea has announced their CWC-G7XII housing for the Canon G7 X Mark II compact camera. Manufactured from aluminum, the housing offer interchangeable lens ports with an M67 thread on the standard port for attaching accessory lenses. The housing offers access to all camera controls and is rated to 100m (328ft).
John Ellerbrock: Nikonos RS lens compatibility with RED 8K sensors
John Ellerbrock of Gates Underwater Products has conducted testing into the compatibility of Nikonos RS lenses with RED 8K Vista Vision sensors. These lenses are purpose designed water contact optics that can be sharp corner to corner. He has kindly shared his results with the Wetpixel community.
Call for entries: Neapolis International Contest of Underwater Photography
The Neapolis International Contest of Underwater Photography is calling for entries for its 2016 contest. There are contests for both Novice and Advanced photographers and categories are largely for macro, wide angle or “biological” images from the Mediterranean. There is one category for images from “Other Seas.” The deadline for entries is 2 September 2016.
Wetpixel Interview with photographer Michael Muller
Michael Muller has just published a book with Taschen titled Sharks. Face-to-Face with the Ocean’s Endangered Predator. Muller is a well known celebrity photographer who has worked for decades photographing musicians, artists, athletes and actors, but what is lesser well known is his passion for sharks and the ocean. This book features his shark portfolio using his “patented seven-bulb, 1200-watt plexi-encased strobe lighting rig”. Ikelite announces housing for LUMIX GX85, GX80 and GX7 Mark II cameras
Ikelite has announced their housing for the Panasonic Lumix GX85, GX80 and GX7 Mark II mirrorless cameras. Constructed from white ABS-PC, it features the company’s new smooth shutter release lever, wired TTL strobe control (with Ikelite strobes), a rubber front grip and port compatibility with “most popular zoom, macro and wide angle lenses.”
