Nikon releases detail of 20mm f/1.8 Z mount lens
Nikon is expanding its Z mount lens collection. Two new lenses have been announced, and one, a 20mm f/1.8 S wide-angle lens may be suitable for use by underwater image makers. It has a minimum focus distance of 20cm (7.9”) and internal focusing.
Olympus announces OM-D E-M1 Mark III
Olympus has announced the OM-D E-M1 Mark III mirrorless camera. It has a micro four thirds 20.4 MP sensor and a new TruePic IX processing engine. Autofocus is done with a 121-point all cross-type on-chip phase-detection AF sensor. It has in-body image stabilization and can record video at cinema 4K.
Nikon announces the D6 SLR camera
Nikon has announced their new flagship D6 SLR camera. Featuring a 20.8MP sensor with an EXPEED 6 image processing engine that offers a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400. Autofocus is via 105 selectable cross type sensors, offering an AF coverage 1.6 times denser that that of the D5.
Ikelite ships Canon and Panasonic/Olympus TTL converters
Ikelite has announced a series of new products that provide TTL exposure control with Panasonic/Olympus or Canon cameras. Designed primarily for use with Ikelite’s DS series strobes and 200DL housings, they are available in a number of options, including kits containing a hotshoe, bulkhead and the external converter.
Inon announces new products
Inon has announced a series of accessories for its product line. These include a Vacuum Leak Sensor that will ship with new X-2 housings or can be retrofitted to existing ones, a mirrored, reflective sticker that enhance strobe or light output when used with Inon’s rotating light modifiers and a new cast aluminum tray. The latter is adjustable to fit a variety of camera housings.
Wetpixel/DPG Masters: Entry Deadline Approaches
The deadline for the 2020 DPG/Wetpixel Masters Photo and Video Competition is approaching fast. The contest is a “purist” imaging contest with minimal categories and an amazing panel of judges with some of the most accomplished underwater image makers on the planet. The deadline for all entries is 11:59 PM PST on 08 February 2020.
Review: Mike Bartick on the Backscatter Mini Flash and Optical Snoot
Mike Bartick provides a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated review of the new Backscatter MF-1 flash and OS-1 snoot. As Mike notes, these products offer some very interesting and unique creative opportunities. Mike also feels that as it is also fundamentally easy to use, this makes snoot photography more accessible.
Wetpixel to attend the Red Sea Diving Festival
Photographers Boaz Samorai and Noam Kortler have organized the Red Sea Diving Festival in Eilat, Israel from 11 to 14 March. Among the events during the festival are underwater imaging workshops, film screenings, and a photography competition. Wetpixel’s Adam Hanlon will be attending and presenting, so please keep checking back for updates from the festival.
