Canon shutters Irista cloud service
Canon has announced that it will shut down its cloud-based image storage, Irista from 31 January 2020. The company has stated that all “photos, videos and personal data held in Irsita will be deleted on this date.” All images and videos can be downloaded in 4GB zip files in order to remove them from the site. The announcement goes on to state that Canon does not plan to replace Irista with another similar service.
Retroactive app allows use of Aperture on macOS Catalina
DPReview has reported that an app has been developed that will allow the use of legacy Mac apps like Aperture and iPhoto within the 64-bit environment on Apple’s latest OS. Called Retroactive, it can be downloaded from GitHub, and full installation instructions are also available.
Aquatica announces A7RIV housing
Aquatica has announced their new housing for the Sony a7rIV mirrorless camera. It features self-locating controls, new joystick control and full access to back-button AF. Its fully compatible with Aquatica’s existing ports. Options include either Nikonos or Ikelite electrical strobe triggering or optical connectors and the Surveyor vacuum system and bulkhead ship as standard.
WPOTY: Full Under Water Category Results
Feast your eyes on all the images that placed in the Under Water category of the 2019 Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Winners David Doubilet and Cruz Erdman, along with Honorable Mention awardees Alex Mustard, Songda Can, Duncan Murrell, Wayne Jones, Fabien Michenet and Angel Fitor share both their images and the stories behind them with the Wetpixel community. Their work is an amazing visual feast, that should inspire and entertain any image maker!
Tokina announces atx-i 11-16mm f/2.8 lens
Tokina will be shipping their atx-i 11-16mm f/2.8 wide angle zoom lens in early November. The new lens is an updated version of the company’s AT-X 116 lens and is designed for use with APS-C or DX cameras. It is available in Nikon F and Canon EF mount versions.
WPOTY 2020 is open for entries
The 2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest is now open for entries. As normal, competition number 56 has 15 adult entry categories, including Under Water, and one category for junior contestants. The deadline for entry is 12 December 2019 and underwater photographer Michael Aw is a member of the judging panel.
Call for entries: World Shootout 2019
The World Shootout is calling for entries for their 2019 contest. All entries by US based photographers will be automatically entered into the USA national photographer category as well as the overall competition. The deadline for all entries is 1 November 2019 and the results will be announced at the BOOt Show on 25 January 2020.
PHIDEX 2019
The first annual Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX) was hosted by the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) from September 20-22nd at the Hilton Conrad hotel and conference center in Manila. The dive expo brought together public and trade visitors as well as manufacturers, underwater photographers, and tourism organizations. There was an expo hall that also included a main stage where several panel discussions and talks took place.
