Call for entries: World Shootout 2019
The World Shootout is calling for entries for their 2019 contest. All entries by US based photographers will be automatically entered into the USA national photographer category as well as the overall competition. The deadline for all entries is 1 November 2019 and the results will be announced at the BOOt Show on 25 January 2020.
PHIDEX 2019
The first annual Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX) was hosted by the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) from September 20-22nd at the Hilton Conrad hotel and conference center in Manila. The dive expo brought together public and trade visitors as well as manufacturers, underwater photographers, and tourism organizations. There was an expo hall that also included a main stage where several panel discussions and talks took place.
Issue 94 of X-Ray Magazine is available
X-Ray Magazine issue 94 is now available to download. It features articles about Tiger Beach, Isla Mujere’s whale sharks, Tubbataha, and Malta’s deep-water wrecks. Rico Besserdich writes about photographing underwater models and the features portfolio is by Jens Umbach.
Annual Dive into the Pink Auction opens
Dive into the Pink’s annual online auction goes live for bidding from 5 pm EST today. Lots include liveaboard and land-based dive trips, underwater photography equipment, jewelry, artwork, and apparel. All proceeds from the auction go toward cancer research.
Seacam offers RS 28mm conversion
Seacam has announced that they are now offering a conversion of the Nikonos RS 28mm wide angle lens for use with modern Nikon SLR cameras and Seacam housings. Ot joins the existing 13 and 20-35mm conversions. The RS series were specifically designed to function as water contact lenses.
Olympus announces OM-D E-M5 Mark III
Olympus has announced the OM-D E-M5 Mark III mirrorless camera. It has a 20MP sensor, 5-Axis in-body Image Stabilization, 121-point cross-type on-chip phase-detection AF, and Cinema 4K Video.
Call for entries: Santi Photo Awards 2019
Santi is calling for entries to their 2019 Photo Awards Contest. In its eighth year, the contest offers “interesting underwater pictures” for a public vote to select the winning images. There is no entry fee and a variety of Santi gear available as prizes. Please see the contest’s site for entry details and rules. The deadline for entries is 22 October.
Results: Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019
The results of the 2019 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest are being announced at a gala event in London’s Natural History Museum tonight. The overall winner was Yongqing Bao with an image of a confrontation between a marmot and an arctic fox. The winner of the Under Water category was David Doubilet, with an image of a garden eel bed in Dauin, Philippines.
