Think Tank Photo launches lightweight roller bag
Think Tank Photo has announced a new lightweight roller bag. The Airport Advantage XT weighs in at 7.5 lbs. (3.4kg), fits in most international and regional overhead lockers and can accommodate two Gripped SLRs with lenses attached, plus 5–8 additional lenses and a 17” laptop. It remains to see whether a housing will fit!
Ikelite announces housing for Sony A7R Mark IV
Ikelite is accepting pre-orders for their 200DL housing for the Sony a7r IV camera. The housing has a thumb button for rear button focus and a built-in vacuum valve. It ships with a manual strobe trigger as standard, with an optional TTL converter available.
Blackmagic Design announces new Video Assist models
Blackmagic Design has announced the Video Assist 12G. It features screens suitable for HDR, a tally indicator, 4 built-in scopes, enhanced focus assist features, 3D LUTs and native Blackmagic RAW recording from supported cameras. Available in both 5” and 7” variants, both are controlled by touch screen and record to SD cards.
Report: CMAS World Underwater Photography Championship
Wetpixel editor Adam Hanlon reports from the 2019 CMAS World Underwater Photography and Video Championship, being held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. The 2019 Championship has 93 entrants from 20 countries (with 10 teams in the video category from 10 countries). Most teams consist of a photographer or videographer and an assistant, competing for the coveted title of “World Champion.”
New tutorials from Erin Quigley
Digital imaging guru Erin Quigley has added two new tutorials to her GoAskErin site. The first is entitled “The secret life of collections in Lightroom” and explains how these can be used as powerful organizational tools, while the second “Texture vs Clarity vs Dehaze” shows how the effects of these adjustments vary and how they can be used on different images.
Some 15 inch Macbook Pros banned from aircraft
Following the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advice, airlines are in the process of banning certain 15 inch MacBook Pro laptop computers from being carried onboard their aircraft. Their concerns relate to the risk of battery fires that may occur with computers sold between September 2015 and February 2017. Note that affected models will not be allowed onboard aircraft.
The Conception Tragedy: Update
Wetpixel offers an update to the events surrounding the Conception tragedy: The wreck has now been raised, and the final victim’s remains have been recovered, with authorities having released the names of 27 of our scuba sisters and brothers that perished so far. Our hearts go out to their friends and families. Stressing that the cause of the fire aboard the Conception is still undetermined, the Coast Gaurd has released an advisory for passenger boat operators that mentions the issues around charging batteries among other points.
Lacie announces SSD drives
Lacie has announced three new rugged SSD drives. The Rugged SSD Pro offers 2800MB/s speeds via Thunderbolt 3. Its Thunderbolt connection is backward compatible with USB 3.1. The Rugged SSD offer speeds of up to 950 MB/s. Lastly, the Rugged® BOSS SSD offers a Lightning connection (along with USB A) and an SD card reader.
