Jeff Orlowski, the director of the film “Chasing Coral,” recently released on Netflix, was interviewed in Moviemaker’s “What’s in Your Kit? column. he article lists the equipment used and also mentions the way the team used laser pointers and laminated reference photos to position cameras for time-lapse sequences.
Michael Phelps didn’t race a real shark on Shark Week and the Internet wasn’t happy
The much anticipated Discovery Shark Week is now in full swing. After months of hype about the race between Olympian Michael Phelps and a great white shark, the race aired last night in the United States. Spoiler alert, Phelps did not in fact race a great white shark. Researchers took the average speed of a great white shark and Michael Phelps raced a cgi version of it. Of course for many reasons the race was logistically implausible to begin with, but regardless the Internet was not happy.
Anglerfish ships version 2 of their remote strobe trigger
Anglerfish Creative Lighting has announced version 2 of their optical remote strobe trigger. Trigger version 2 is lighter, smaller and has a sensor that has a wider field of view. Features carried over from version 1 include optical and electrical sync cable options and a built in rechargeable battery. It has a depth limit of 100 m (330 ft.).
Aquatica announces AGH5 housing
Aquatica has announced their AGH5 housings for the Panasonic GH5 mirrorless camera. It features a redesigned shutter lever, levers for ISO and white balance, and easy access to Fn2 and Fn5 programmable buttons. There are 3 ports for accessories and electrical or optical strobe triggering options.

Videux video workflow app available
After extensive beta testing, Videux has released their final versions. The app is an “organizer, player, and workflow assistant for video that is highly optimized to get tens of thousands of videos organized and ready for editing.” It is available for Mac via direct download or from the Apple Store as a full or an LT version. It is compatible with most video formats and allows for sorting footage via numerous criteria.
Adobe releases significant Lightroom Mobile updates
Adobe has released a significant feature upgrade to Lightroom Mobile for iOS and Android. In the case of the former, there is a new selective brush, a details tab and an improved interface for iPad. Android users will experience a new interface that is faster, more efficient and Android specific.
Official Coverage from the Digital Shootout available
The Digital Shootout has now posted coverage from the 2017 event. It was held at the Divi Flamingo, Bonaire from 17 to 24 June and attracted 60 participants. The events also hosted a contest and congratulations are due to all the winners.
