One space available for Wetpixel Whale Sharks 2017

We now have only one space available on our trip to snorkel and photograph the amazing whale shark aggregation in Isla Mujeres. The space is available on the trip that is running from 04 to 10 August. As is always the case, the trip will focus on being photographically and videographically productive in documenting this amazing spectacle. In 2015, we experienced around 400 whale sharks in a tight group around our boat!

Gabon announces Africa’s largest network of marine protected areas

On Monday of this week the central African country of Gabon announced a network of 20 marine parks and protected reserves. More than a quarter of Gabon’s coast will be protected, stretching for a collective total of 20,500 square miles. Although not much of Gabon’s waters have been explored, what is known is that it is home to the world’s largest breeding populations of Leatherback and Olive Ridley sea turtles.

Aquatica announces housing for Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II

Aquatica has announced their new housing for the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II mirrorless camera. The AE-M1 Mk II offers lever controls for REC and Fn2 buttons and all menu navigation buttons have been moved closer to the edge of the housing. It can be supplied with an opto-electrical converter, Nikonos or Ikelite strobe triggering, has “self finding” controls and a magnetic camera saddle.

Inon ceases production of z240 strobe

Inon has announced that they have ceased production of their Z240 strobe, in preparation for the release of a new model. Once current dealers have sold out of their existing stock, there will be no more new Z240s available. Details of the new model have not yet been announced, but as soon as they are, we will be letting the Wetpixel community know.

Jack O’Neill, pioneer of the wetsuit, has passed away

Jack O’Neill, founder of the O’Neill company and developer of the neoprene wetsuit, has died of natural causes in his home in Santa Cruz, California. O’Neill was 94 years old. In the 1970’s O’Neill lost his eye in a surfing accident, which resulted in his signature eye patch. He was an eternal ocean lover and late in life became an ocean and environmental advocate.
