New waterproof drone with DJI camera is released
A new drone that is waterproof and uses DJI’s 4k camera, gimbal, and app, has been released. The HexH20 Pro V2 is the latest waterproof drone from Quadh20. The drone can fly in wet weather, has buoyancy devices, and can film below the waterline. The ability of the drone to make water landings makes it an appealing choice for underwater photographers looking to add a drone to their camera arsenal. The drone will be available March 31st with an MSRP of $6449.
Electronic goods in carry ons banned on certain flights
Regulations announced in the past 48 hours prohibit carrying most electronic goods (including cameras) as cabin baggage on flights to the U.S.A. and U.K. from certain destinations. For flights to the U.S., flights originating or transmitting via Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are affected.
Humpback whales are gathering in unusually large numbers
Scientists have been observing large gatherings of humpback whales feeding together off the coast of South Africa in recent years. The size of these gatherings numbers from 20 to 200 individuals, behavior that was only known to occur recently. A recently published study in the journal PlosOne examines the hypotheses of these “super-groups”.
Interview: Kelly Cestari on surf photography
Kelly Cestari works as a full time professional surf photographer, capturing the action during the World Surf League. Based in Australia, his work takes him through Australia, USA, Europe, Tahiti, South Africa and Hawaii with the tour each year. Wetpixel caught up with Kelly and he kindly agreed to answer a few questions about his imagery and surf photography in general.
Behind the scenes of Cirque du Soleil’s “O”
CNET has just published an article that goes behind the scenes of the famed Cirque du Soleil show “O”. Cirque du Soleil’s underwater show has been running for 18-years now, where it has been home at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The crew is comprised of 75 performers, and another 122 technicians who work behind the scenes, all of them scuba certified (with the exception of the wardrobe team). There are 14 safety divers who remain underwater for the entirety of the show.

Issue 78 of X-Ray Magazine is now available to download. It contains articles about the Maldives, Tasmania, Austrian lakes, and wreck diving in Spain. The marine iguanas of the Galapagos are featured and Mike Bartick offers advice about capturing creative images of nudibranchs.
Images: Free Diving World Record under Ice
Predrag Vuckovic shares an amazing series of images taken during a successful world free diving record attempt under ice in the Lago Di Anterselva Lake in the Italian Alps. Free diver Valentina Cafolla completed a distance of 125 meters (410 feet). Predrag found the light levels under the ice challenging photographically with 50cm (1 foot 7 in) thick ice and a thick layer of snow.
