Issue 128 of UwP Magazine is Available
Issue 128 of Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP) is available to download. It features a report of the Digital Shootout and reviews of the Olympus OM-1, Marelux’s SOFT and 140mm dome and a Smartphone monitor. Techniques covered include snoot techniques and black backgrounds, while Cancun’s whale sharks and weedy sea dragons are also discussed in articles.
Wetpixel Live: Underwater Panorama
The increased availability of panorama stitching software within existing photo editing packages has added a tool to the underwater image maker’s arsenal. Alex and Adam discuss some creative ideas about how to take advantage of these new capabilities and offer some practical tips to help photographers.

Due to late cancellations, we have two spaces available on the Wetpixel Raja Ampat Photo Safari! The trip has been fully booked for some time and is on the amazing Damai. UN Fails to Protect High Seas
The BBC reports that the United Nations has failed in its attempts to pass a global ocean protection treaty for the fifth time. The proposed plan was to regulate commercial activity on the high seas, the area outside of national controls. The goal was to designate 30% of the world’s oceans as protected areas, but countries failed to reach an agreement about fishing rights and funding and support for developing countries.
Call for Entries: Underwater Tour Awards
The Underwater Tour Awards has partnered with Take 3 for the Sea to launch their annual photography contest. It features categories for: Underwater Characters, Underwater Scenes, Topside Scenes, Aquatic Abstracts, Underwater Black and White, and Reportage. It is open for entries now, with a deadline of 19 September.
Wetpixel Live: Switching to Mirrorless
Currently, one of the most often asked questions during Alex and Adam’s workshops and trips is about when they are going to take the plunge and change to mirrorless cameras. PHIDEX is Open
The Philippine International Dive Expo (PHIDEX) is now underway at the SMX Convention Center in Manila. It is being held from 19 to 21 August and it features lots of talks by eminent underwater photographers, including Alex Mustard, Gutsy Tuason, Tom St. George, Bo Mancao, Tobia Friedrich, Rafael Caballero, Jerome Kim, Renee Capozolla, Ram Yoro, Mike Bartick, and Adam Hanlon.
