Dates announced for Manta Fest 2019
Manta Ray Bay Resort and Yap Divers have announced the dates of their 2019 Manta Fest Photo Festival. In its twelfth year, it will be held from 24 August to 8 September and will feature presentations from David Fleetham, Frank Schneider, Tim Rock, Andreas Schumacher, Ray Bullion, and Brad Holland.
Easydive is shipping Comby smartphone and GoPro system
Easydive are now shipping their Comby housing system which combines Android smartphones in the company’s Diveshot housing and GoPro action cameras in the Carbonarm Hero housing. The two devise communicate via wifi, allowing the GoPro to be controlled via the smartphone, and the smartphone’s screen to be used as an external monitor.
Easydive ships DivePad housing
Easydive has released its DivePad housing for iOS and Android tablets. The universal housings word with all current models with screens up to 10” diagonal screen size. Camera functions can be accessed via the DivePad app for iOS tablets or keyboard controls in Android.
Call for entries: SDUFEX 2019
The 2019 San Diego UnderSea Film Exhibition (SDUFEX) is calling for entries. In its twentieth year, it is being held at the state-of-the-art Irwin M. Jacobs Qualcomm Hall in San Diego, California and is expected to be a sell-out event. The deadline for entries is 15 June, while the festival itself will be held on 4 and 5 October.
Viktor Lyagushkin: Until The Ice Melts
Underwater photographer Viktor Lyagishkin is currently holding an exhibition of his work, under the ice in Russia’s White Sea. Called “Until the Ice Melts,” the displayed images were all captured in the White Sea between March and September 2018. Viktor hopes that the surreal and beautiful exhibition will highlight the issues of climate change and its associated loss of ice from the region. He has kindly shared a gallery of the images in their underwater setting with the Wetpixel community.
Book documents the rise of 3D imaging in marine archeology
The Coastal Research Library has published a book detailing “The Rise of 3D in Maritime Archeology.” It documents the history and importance of the developing 3D technology in sonar, laser, optical and other sensor-based technologies as a study tool in marine archeology. This includes photogrammetry and the use of Global Information Systems and 3D modeling software.
Compact Flash Association announces CFexpress specifications
The Compact Flash Association has announced that there will be three versions of their new CFexpress format cards. Within the CFexpress 2.0 specification are three versions, designated types A, B, and C. Type B is identical in form to current XQD cards and will be capable of transfers rates of up to 2,000 MB/s. Type A will be smaller for use with compact devices and will have a transfer rate of 1,000 MB/ while type C will be larger and offer 4,000MB/s.
Wetpixel/Under the Jungle Cave Photography Workshop is open for bookings
Wetpixel will be hosting an intensive photographic workshop focusing on capturing stunning imagery of the underground world. The workshop will be held for 8 to 11 July 2020 in the epicenter of beautiful decorated caves, Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula in conjunction with Under the Jungle and photographer Tom St George. These caves offer an ideal environment to capture amazing images, with a variety of environments to allow for people with different experience and qualifications.
