Tales by Light airs tomorrow night in Australia
The second season of Canon’s “Tales by Light” airs tomorrow night in Australia. The series features accomplished Canon photographers, including Wetpixel publisher Eric Cheng. The series follows Cheng underwater to Norway, Brazil and the Bahamas and delves into what drives and inspires him as an underwater photographer.

When Jack Preston took his drone out for only the second time, he did not expect to find Orcas hunting in the crystal clear shallows around the Mercury Islands in New Zealand. The Orcas of this area hunt stingrays in the shallows collectively, one whale pulling a stingray out from a hiding spot and another fully biting it.
Scientists stumble upon 41 perfectly preserved shipwrecks in Black Sea
A group of scientists conducting research in the Black Sea stumbled across 41 perfectly preserved thousand-year old shipwrecks off the coast of Bulgaria. The research team was using ROVs to 3-D scan the seabed in their expedition to uncover causes for sea level rise after the last ice age 20,000 years ago.
Apple releases major update to Final Cut Pro X
Apple has released the largest update to Final Cut Pro X since its release. Version 10.3 has added support for the new Touch Bar, updated the Magnetic Timeline and revamped the app’s interface. In addition, it has added support for Wide Color in compatible devices and added native support for several new video formats.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017 is open for entries
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPOTY) contest for 2017 is now open for entries. The deadline for submissions is 15 December 2016. Although the entry period has been brought forward, the awards and exhibition opening will be during October as is traditional.
Scientists track sperm whales based on dialects
When the subjects of scientist Hal Whitehead’s research expeditions, sperm whales, returned to the Galapagos Islands after a 10-year absence he quickly assembled a new team to study the old whales. However, once the team began listening to the whale vocalizations, they discovered these were not the old whales they’d previously studied. They discovered this through the whales’ dialects.
