Cathay Pacific announces shark fin ban
The BBC reports that Hong Kong’s flag carrier airline Cathay Pacific has finally announced that with immediate effect it will no longer carry shark fin. Previously, the airline had refused an outline ban, but would only “transport shark fin that was sustainably sourced.”. A campaign has now forced it to ban the carriage of “all shark products on cargo and passenger flights.” (Image from Shutterstock).
WD releases Pro series drives
Western Digital has announced the My Passport Pro and My Cloud Pro drives. The former features wireless sync with compatible cameras (or wired for others) as an SD card reader and capacities of up to 3TB. The latter are optimized for importing directly from card readers and have a built-in hardware accelerated video processor, which can handle 4K streams. It is available in capacities of up to 32TB.
Funding needed: Looking for Lost Sharks
A project on the scientific crowdfunding platform, experiment, is seeking to raise $1,800 funding for the classification and naming of a new species of shark. The tentatively named ghost sharks are deep water species from the Western Indian Ocean that are now being featured in fisheries and by scientists as the tools for sampling at extreme depth are developed. As yet, they have not bene formally classified or named.
Out of the Blue: Galapagos Islands in 360 from the Washington Post
The Washington Post, in collaboration with the UNC School of Media and Journalism, has created a 360-degree tour of the Galapagos Islands, including underwater footage. By using 360-degree video, the hope is to show the natural beauty of the islands both above and below the islands to the public.
Adobe releases major update to Creative Cloud
Adobe has released a series of updates to its Creative Cloud suite today. Photoshop 2015.5 now has the Content Aware Crop feature that was announced earlier as well as facial aware liquify and performance enhancements. Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 now supports all RED DSMC2 cameras.

The summer season is here, which also means the once yearly coral spawning event is almost here as well. A coral spawning video by Natalia V. Osipova is now up on the New York Times. The mass spawning event follows the lunar cycle and typically occurs once a year after a late summer full moon, but is not entirely predictable.
Shark Sanctuaries announced in Caribbean
The Caribbean islands of St. Maarten and the Cayman Islands have both announced that their exclusive economic zones are now closed for commercial shark fishing, Pew Environment reports. The islands of Curacao and Grenada have also committed to enact similar legislation this year too.

Great white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod is a relatively new phenomenon that is becoming more and more regular, but the behavior of the sharks is different than anywhere else in the world.
