Report: ADEX Show 2016
The Asian Dive Exhibition (ADEX) continues to buck the trend in terms of visitor numbers, with nearly 58,000 visitors attending this year’s show. Many imaging product manufacturers attended, and the show drew an “all star” contingent of still and video shooters. Wetpixel’s Drew Wong was on hand to ensure that those of us that could not attend are kept appraised of all the new developments.
Video: Swarm of red pelagic tuna crabs carpet the seafloor
During a recent deep sea expedition off the coast of Panama by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, chief scientist Jesus Pineda witnessed an incredible gathering of crabs. While exploring the Hannibal Bank Seamount the scientists came across thousands of red pelagic tuna crabs swarming across the seafloor.
Alien Skin ships Exposure X Bundle
Alien Skin has announced a bundle consisting of their Exposure X, Snap Art 4 and Blow Up 3 apps. Exposure X is Alien Skin’s browser and photo editor and version X.1 gives it the ability to integrate with the other 2 apps, along with multi monitor support, batch file naming, improved performance and a brush mask for more precise edits. It will work as a plug in with other photo editing apps, or as a stand alone.
Panasonic announces UX series 4K camcorders
Among the new cameras announced by Panasonic at NAB, are the UX series of professional 4K camcorders. The AG-UX180 features a 1-inch MOS sensor, a 20x optical zoom, 60p UHD recording; dual codec recording, IR recording in low light, and 3G SDI/HDMI2.0 output. Variable frame rate recording in 1080p is also planned. The AG-UX90 also features a 1-inch MOS sensor, optical 15x zoom and UHD 30p recording.
Call for entries: Raja Ampat Underwater Photo Contest
The Raja Ampat Underwater Photo Contest is calling for entries. It is seeking wide-angle images taken in the Raja Ampat region only. It is offering $33,000 worth of prizes and up to 5 entries per person are allowed. There is no entry fee.
DaVinci Resolve 12.5 beta is available
Blackmagic have also released a beta version of DaVinci Resolve. Version 12.5 features a variable speed curve within the retiming tools, metadata is now displayed on the edit page, the performance of the multicam features has been improved, HDR grading tools have been added, and audio waveforms are visible in the source viewer.
Extremely rare Megamouth shark caught off the coast of Japan
An extremely rare Megamouth shark has been caught off the coast of Japan. The animal was 15-feet long and weighed one ton. It was caught by fishermen 5 kilometers off the coast of central Japan in Owase Port in Mie Prefecture. Only 60 Megamouth sharks have ever been spotted since the species’ discovery in 1976.
Blackmagic Design ships 4K Video Assist
Black magic Design has announced at NAB that they are now shipping the 4K version of their Video Assist recorder/monitor. It can be added to any camera with an HDMI or SDI output and has a 7 inch monitor. Recording is to two SD cards in 10 Bit 4:2:2 ProRes and DNx formats.
